1. Only Quad Track (4 individual performances, 2 panned left, 2 right) if you’re tight. Anything other than tight as nails tracking can and will lead to a weird phasey hollow sound. Also, I find dual tracking (with more gain per track) works better for the super fast technical stuff, quad (with less gain per track) for the slower heavier chunky palm mute material.

What do I need to Record & Mix?
The basic equipment so you can start recording is:* A computer with as much CPU power and RAM as you can afford. More software running through the project = more cpu and ram. Dual Core processor and 2 giga ram is a nice starting point. You can always improve later. Unless you have i5 and i7 processors which they will help you a lot and they are great for mixing and software.
* A sound card. Firewire sound cards are pretty nice and affordable these days. Firewire is usually preferred than USB sound cards.
* A daw. Daw stands for “Digital Audio Workstation”. In simple terms it’s the program that you use to record, mix and use all the addons like compressors, equalizers, limiters to improve your sound. Read more »
